Health & Accessibility
CLE Abroad® programs are designed to provide engaging and immersive experiences that combine cultural exploration with educational programming. Many of the destinations we visit include historic sites, city walking tours, and institutional visits that may involve a moderate level of physical activity.
Participants are encouraged to review the following information carefully when considering participation in a program.
Physical Activity
Most CLE Abroad programs involve a moderate level of activity, which may include:
• Walking through historic districts and urban neighborhoods
• Standing during guided tours or site visits
• Climbing stairs in historic buildings or cultural sites
• Navigating uneven sidewalks, cobblestones, or narrow streets
• Boarding buses, boats, or other local transportation
Daily walking distances may vary depending on the destination and program schedule.
While we aim to balance structured visits with free time, participants should be comfortable walking and standing for lengthy periods of time throughout the day.
Historic Locations and Infrastructure
Many CLE Abroad programs take place in historic cities where infrastructure may differ from what travelers are accustomed to in the United States.
Participants should be aware that:
• Elevators may not be available in some historic buildings
• Streets and walkways may include uneven surfaces or cobblestones
• Historic sites may involve stairs or limited accessibility
• Transportation vehicles and venues may have varying accessibility features
These conditions are part of the character and authenticity of many destinations.
Mobility Considerations
Participants should be able to move independently and keep pace with the group during scheduled activities.
While program staff and local guides are always happy to assist when possible, CLE Abroad programs are not designed to provide individualized mobility assistance.
Participants who require personal assistance should plan to travel with a companion who can provide support during the program.
Medical Considerations
Participants are responsible for evaluating their own health and fitness for travel prior to registering for a program.
If you have any medical concerns that could affect your participation in international travel or group activities, we recommend consulting with your physician before traveling.
Participants are responsible for bringing any necessary medications and for managing their own medical needs during the program.
Dietary Requirements
We make every effort to accommodate common dietary preferences and restrictions when possible. However, dietary options may vary depending on destination and local restaurant availability.
Participants with specific dietary needs are encouraged to notify CLE Abroad in advance so that we can communicate those requirements to local partners whenever feasible.
Accessibility Questions
If you have questions about the physical requirements of a specific program or wish to discuss accessibility considerations, we encourage you to contact us before registering.
Our team is happy to help you determine whether a program is a good fit for your travel preferences and comfort level.
